It's hard to know where to start. 1) Suggesting changing a display to D50 is a workaround, not a solution for a problem of principle in the ICC spec. 2) If it were really the "correct way of proceeding", then the implication is that ICC profiles can only be applied to D50 white point displays, and are useless as a characterization for anything else (since the ability to match spot colors is not supported unless the display has a white point of D50). In other words, ICC is a "relative only" profiling format, and therefore there is an urgent need to replace it with something else that supports absolute characterization, so that important uses such as proofing and spot color matching can be implemented.
