No, nothing in LDAP specs for that. Of course the OpenLDAP constraint overlay provides exactly this function. In ActiveDirectory, you had 3 chances (and slim and fat left town...)

Thanks very much for everyone's responses. It's an Active Directory system I need to deploy this in, so unfortunately OpenLDAP's angles won't be applicable (sigh). I'll handle the data validation at the application level, then.
