There's a very nice tutorial at:
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9044
Specifically for Dapper Drake. If you're on Edgy, you might have to make some
adjustments, but probably not. I did have one problem with his instructions,
I had to change the "Allow" statement in the tinyproxy configuration file to
match my local subnet. You might have to do the same.
The article points out that you can use a firewall to block unfiltered
connections, but I think I prefer the method used by the author. He adds the
proxy configuration to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox.cfg, so that it applies
systemwide and non-administrative users can't remove the proxy setting.
If you take that approach, you obviously need to make sure that you similarly
lock down any other browsers on the system -- or remove them.
If you prefer to use the firewall approach, Firehol makes that pretty easy,
too.
If you run into trouble, ping me on IM and I'll help you troubleshoot it. My
Jabber chat ID is "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" (works fine from the gmail chat).
Shawn.
