I think that the technology should be extensible. But I think that the
'client' application should be cross platform. Some people would enjoy
this kind of interface. But they do not choose to or want to run Windows.
Java or Python would be two possible options. It would be usefull to have
this interface work in a way that linuxconf does, eg: text only, or HTML
or GUI. The underlying system would be generic and then talk via whatever
interface is plugged onto it. This way, we can have a small text only tool
on an LRP system where no clients are available. But it might be better
having this on another internal host for security reasons? Maybe not as
once a box has been penetrated things would be done manually by an
attacker anyway.
There are times when the one cosnstant system on my network is the
router/gateway. The other systems might be rebuilding or have kids playing
games or in a system that does not have the client software installed. So
having a nice interface replicated on the gateway box itself is handy if
there is the room.
The same tool can be used to build the disk ala Coyote Linux, or clone a
system similar to muLinux. Those are options.But one consitent tool would
be nice.
