Hi All,

(Pls CC me on any followups, since I'm not a subscriber. Thanks very much.)

In the archives I saw discussion on this list of troubles getting CIPE
compiled for Bering (compiler/library mismatch).

I've now got CIPE 1.5 working on Bering 1.0rc3, so I thought I'd share what I
had to do:

* use UML instructions
  - need BOTH UML environments
  - need kernel source 2.4.18 and patches (from leaf download area)
* slink development:
  - installed 2.4.18 source w/ patches, config file, and ran make dep
    (need this to get the correct header files for compiling cipe later.)
    You could conceivably use the 2.4.18 source that ships with the
    woody devel environment, but I haven't tried that.
  - installed egcc_2.91.66-0slink2.deb from
    <http://archive.debian.org/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/devel/>
  - compiled openssl + ciped 1.5 using egcc
    (2.4.18 kernel source will break the default gcc2.7.2)
* woody development (also needed!)
  - compile openssl + ciped 1.5 using default gcc2.95
    (egcc module from above won't work in the kernel that ships in
    Bering 1.0rc3)
* LRP package:
  - d/l ciped-1.lrp from
    <http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/sminola/files/packages/>
  - overwrite module from woody (cuz gcc2.95...)
  - overwrite binary from slink (cuz glibc 2.0...)
  - amazingly, the two work happily together

I now have the resulting package up and working for several CIPE links.

If anybody would like the package or any more details, please let me know.

Regards,
Daniel.
