Ok, I see. But I still don't like the idea of loading modules in this
init script :-)
One of the the reasons for this is that the modules itself are stored
in an other package. I personal like to keep module loading and the
modules itself in one package to prevent confusing and errors.

I guess this is history by now.
I like your /etc/module and /etc/init.d/watchdog, it just requires loading of modules.lrp all the time, which IMHO is not a big change in the distribution.
