It's indeed a little weird and I never saw it before (maybe I just didn't notice it before) Anyway, I have a kernel, modules.lrp and updated /etc/init.d/hwclock.

The kernel and modules.lrp can be used with either Bering or Bering_uClibc. If you like I can mail it to you for testing.
I can install it in my hardware, I doubt it will perfom any different than the software I have, but that way we'll know.
Maybe you want to build a separate kernel with the pc_keyb patch. It shortens the SW load considerably on hardware without a keyboard controller.
