Yes we use 2 (or more) work trees (but 1 repository).
The problem is that the build environment is different for BuC 5 
(because of the possibility to compile on other architecture than x86, 
and so the use of a toolchain).
With my solution we can have 2 build environments but share a common 
repository (so no need to download twice the git objects, and easier to 
merge and test local branches between BuC 4.x and BuC 5).
