Even that seems high, I'd suggest a bit more looking around.

Yes, SM still uses flash memory and suffers from the same limitations.  The
main difference is the CF has an ide interface (the electronics, not the
phisical large plug) built in.  That's why CF <-> pcmcia adapters are
available so much cheaper that SM <-> pcmcia adapters but the CF cards
themselves are a bit more expensive, especially for small sizes.
