I had heard through the grapevine that the STHome could do this, hence my hope. As it turns out it can, and can't, be done.
The normal STHome and STPro have no PPPoE client so as is, they require a PPPoE client on the LEAF box.
However there are some nifty hacks that one can use on the STHome & Pro, as follows:
1) You can upgrade the firmware of the STHome to be that of a STPro. Thus, if you are connecting by PPTP using the STHome, you can instead config it to be a STPro and it will have PPP abilities and you can offload any client requirements from the LEAF box, onto the STHome/Pro itself. See:

2) If the firmware on your STHome is of the G series (as opposed to the K series that I have) then you can even upgrade your STHome to be a ST 510, which does have a built-in PPPoE client. See:

Note that all these hacks invoke unofficial firmware installs on your STHome, so proceed at your own risk.
Thanks again for the feedback!
Cheers,

Quick question: Can I have my SpeedTouch Home (ethernet flavour) handle all the PPPOE aspects of my DSL connection or must I have a PPPOE client on my Dach box? I'd like to avoid having to rebuild my Dach box with a PPPOE client, if at all possible.
I liked my previous high-speed cable service, where all I had to do was have my dach box be a dhcp client.
If it (all PPPOE handling) can be done with the STHome how do I do it? I've followed all the instructions that I could find on the net (nuke all phonebook entries, add in a phonebook entry for ppp, add the ppp element, set to AlwaysOn, etc) but still no love. In the phonebook I use the VC/VP entry that works 100% when in 'bridged' mode, namely 0/35.
I'm located in Pickering, Ontario. My ISP is NutNBut.Net but I feed from a local BellCanada CO and thus should be able to do this if Sympatico users can do it.
Thanks,
scott
BTW: I have upgraded the firmware to the latest revision, .281 and have performed the hack to enable 'Pro' features on my 'Home' model.
I am presently able to connect my WinXP box to this modem, and using XP's built-in PPPOE support can connect onto the internet so everything is in workable shape.
