Thanks Lynn.  I'm not at my computer right now so I will have to get
back to you with this.  Regarding uDHCP, you have two packages available
at your site, one for Dachstein and another for the rest.  Should I be
using the Dachstein package, given that Bering evolved from Dachstein,
or the other one?

All of them that I know of. My package includes both the server and
client rolled into a single binary saving some extra space. I believe
the other one is only the server.

Your interfaces should come up, then the dhcp client is run, then
Shorewall. Check the "RCLINKS=" parameter in dhclient and Shorewall
/etc/init.d/ scripts.. dhclient should have a lower number. What do the
logs say 
happens during the initial attempt?

Yes, you can't route between 2 interfaces unless the subnets are
different. 
The notable exception to this is proxy-arp.
