One more time.

Lynn, as you suggested I checked out the RCDlinks= parameters in
Shorewall and uDHCPC init.d scripts. Unfortunately, I didn't make too
much sense of them. What number indicates the order in which the
scripts will run?

I also noticed that the start script I had included a note that it only
worked for the Mountain distros. So I checked out the 'other' uDHCP
package on your site and it says the same thing. So I'm a bit confused
about which script is for the non-Mountain distros (Bering in my case).

I also noticed that the first character in the RCDLinks= line for your
uDHCP packages is an S where for most others it seems to be a 2. I
googled but couldn't find any info on RCDLinks options so I thought I
would just ask!

Thing is, I'm confused about the whole RCDLinks thing and how it relates
to the uDHCP start script. Any advice you can give me?

Thanks, as always.

Your welcome. ;-)

All of them that I know of. My package includes both the server and
client rolled into a single binary saving some extra space. I believe
the other one is only the server.

Your interfaces should come up, then the dhcp client is run, then
Shorewall. Check the "RCLINKS=" parameter in dhclient and Shorewall
/etc/init.d/ scripts.. dhclient should have a lower number. What do the
logs say
happens during the initial attempt?

Yes, you can't route between 2 interfaces unless the subnets are
different.
The notable exception to this is proxy-arp.
