This can be done now with format strings, though I've yet to document how they work in the new 3.0 codebase.
My use case for this is to be able to print out a consolidated transaction report to keep with my tax records when I sell shares of commodities. If it'd be helpful as an example of what I'm looking for, I can try to attach or send you one of my spreadsheets that I currently use to track my share transactions.
My intention is to support a framework that let's you do whatever you like. :)
