I think http://is.gd/CTDv discussses a feature similar to what you
require.  The basic idea is that instead of being a simple value, each
ledger transaction amount could be an expression that may refer to
"variables" such as account balances.  If you extrapolate this idea
further, then ledger becomes a kind of accounting spreadsheet
application where each transaction value and each account balance is
like a cell in which you can enter both values and expressions that
may refer to the "contents" of other transactions and balances.  This
would be very useful, but also probably difficult to implement.


Great, it's more feasible. And if the expression of transaction amount support
wildcard char, regexp, and if condition, Ledger could be so much powerful and
competing.
