Your work, Simon, clearing the path and helping civilians across it, is one of the examples I point to and say "THIS is why I only use open source software". At the same time, I think that John and c++ ledger are taking bold steps forward, with features almost as complex as the real world, and all of the other community development around these projects makes me happy I stayed.
