I've built Ledger's master branch with Homebrew and the executable is 3.7 MB. Adding --with-python --with-debug results in an executable of 8.3 MB.
In either case, I haven't noticed any perceivable slow down, but my files amount to less than 200 KB. Ledger reg takes approximately 0.6 s, and ledger bal about 40ms. Do you have the latest Xcode?
