I want ledger to remind me that I need to pay my electric bill on the 28th and that I get paid every other Thursday, and that my HOA dues are every three months. I usually post transactions two weeks in advance which tells me if I am going to outrun my paycheck. I direct a large portion of my pay towards a retirement account which enforces a defacto budget on me. It works for me, but I doubt anyone else will use it that way.
