I got it working doing what I shouldn't be doing. Mint uses official ubuntu
repositories. I downloaded the .deb driver/encode/table packages outside of
the distro directly from an ubuntu mirror and hacked it. It might be
worthwhile to suggest that Mint 18 isn't supported? But yay, it works.
