I’m slightly confused. Grayson must have sat down over the Summer and decided
that his plan to replace Beckford was to completely change the system and play
with a lone striker with 2 supposed pacey wingers supporting, then sure up the
midfield by having 3 central midfielders , two of which he never thought were
good enough to be paired together in the League below?  Then at the back he
must
have thought I have to replace a pacey, all action defender with a carthorse.
When you couple Collins with our fading captain it reminds a bit of Gregan and
Butler all over again. Lubo and Rui would have been better in my book.

The tactics, the teamwork and the players just didn’t work. I can only assume
that Grayson’s plan was to play Paynter in the lone striker role because
Becchio
is unable to do this. I thought first half was a shambles, our main tactic was
a
long balls from Naylor or Collins down the right. In the midfield Kilkenny
looked like he’d not being doing his holiday running, he was woeful. Howson was
bright and created the goal but he needs support and Kilkenny and Johnson just
didn’t give him that. A fair result today would have been 1-5 to Derby, we were
well beaten.

Just heard Grayson moaning about Somma being injured. FFS he never got a look
in
last season so why is he suddenly an important player ? Madness.

The positives for me were our keeper who kept us in it with 4 top class saves.
Top quality. Also, second half I thought there was a 20 minute spell where we
attempted to play football and caused them all sorts of problems. There’s
players in that team that can cope at this level but they didn't do enough and
the performance was too bitty.

Scores:

Smeichel – 9. Looks like we’ve got a gem.

Connolly – 5. I thought he started really brightly and it looked like we’d
finally got a decent right back, but he just faded after a lively first 20
minutes.

Bessone – 3. Really poor throughout. Tried to come forward late on but not
effective.

Collins – 5. One or two good last minute challenges but he’s not good enough,
its like watching Jack Ashurst. He’s League One standard.

Naylor – 5. Worried about his pace. Paul Butler all over again.

Kilkenny – 4. Not enough work off the ball and not enough creativity with the
ball.

Howson – 7. Bright, lively and did most things well, but can’t do it on his
own.

Johnson – 5.  Oh dear, I just don’t get it with this bloke. Yes he’s got a dig
on him and yes he’s a big bloke that can put himself about in the area but he’s
just not good enough.

Watt – 6. Not sure where he’s supposed to fit in. He does some good stuff but
he
is far from the finished article. Can’t fault his effort though.

Sam – 4. Disappointing. He didn’t look quick or particularly skilful. He did
improve second half but then Grayson took him off.  Why is he doing sliding
tackles in the box ? Crazy.

Becchio – 1. When I saw the team and the formation I knew we would lose. Even
for Becchio’s performances this was a stinker. He fell over, fouled,
miscontrolled , lost headers, misplaced passes and yes scored a goal …. That’s
why I gave him 1 for side footing into an empty net from 6 yards. This bloke is
crap.

Subs:

White – 7. I like this lad. Get him in the fucking team playing on the left
wing.

Clayton – 0. Can he play football ?

Grella – 6. Looked lively.

Grayson – created a new system and a new team – it didn’t work. Derby aren’t a
good team and we were walloped. Dark days ahead if we don’t get Snodgrass,
Paynter, and Kisnorbo back soon and also some pace in the team.

How many points do we need to definitely stay up ? It could be a long season.
