Morning Eric.
Becchio is not my pet hate this season, he's always been my pet hate since he
arrived at the club. I could put up with the argument that as a second striker
in League Division 3 he put in the effort and contributed with a decent quota
of
goals (1 in 3 ish), but I disagree with your assessment that he needs players
around him to look good. I think what you mean is that he needs players around
him so he doesn't look so bad. That's what happened when he played with
Beckford. Beckford ran the defences ragged and gave Becchio a lot of room, time
and space in which to play. That would suit any striker. You thought Becchio
put
up a good fight on his own, well I thought he was woefully short of any sort of
contribution other than a side foot into the net (he was there granted) and
also
a lot of effort - you'll get less in this league just for having a sweaty top
after 90 minutes. His general play was shocking. How many times did we see him
fall over and complain, how many times did we see him beaten in the air on a
50:50, how many times did we see him lose possession through an inability to
control a simple ball, and how many times was he caught offside through having
to try and move early to compensate for a lakc of pace. He's a real plodder.
How
about in those final minutes when he suddenly found himself free in the box
unmarked, all he had to do is pull it back to a white shirt in the box, what
did
he do ? He sliced it to the first Derby defender. Terrible.
Who will take a bet with me that Becchio won't score 10 league goals this
season
(£20). Don't forget I've lost these before so it's a fair bet ? He only needs 9
in 45, should be fairly straightforward for him.
I agree with your comments about the midfield not helping the defence. I
thought
all 3 midfielders (mainly Kilkenny and Johnson) didn't do enough off the ball
and as a result we saw waves and waves of Derby attacks were it seemed they had
no opposition. However, do you really think Collins and Naylor are the answer
at
this level ? I don't.
Rich
