morning Rich Most of your comments I agree with, I can also conclude this years "pet-hate-object" is Becchio for you. Yes, every season theres one, you ve been exposed my friend :-)
I thought Becchio put up a good fight on his own, I ll grant you that hes not a world beater though but its not easy on your own up front. For Becchio to look good he needs players to run around him giving him options, preferably one-touch options where he does not need to control the ball first. He also needs good quality passes to his feet, not played past him so that hes engaged in a running duel for the ball which he will lose. Hes slow, its one of his limitations, so lets not make it hard for him. Thats what team playing is about, enabling each other and capitalizing on each others strengths. I reckon the impression is that our defence were shite, especially when they were exposed on the counter attack. Anybody whos played at any level will know its not easy to defend against 3-4 players running against you with space and pace. However its a common mistake to blame the defence for this. In reality its the midfield that are exposing the defence by giving the ball away easily. In todays game the ball was given away in midfield a few times. We payed for it on one occasion: Hulse got his goal. Bless him for being a gentleman about his lack of celebrations. He won a few points in my book. I cant remember our backs attack once, is that the case? If so its not good enough. I must confess LUFC didnt seem to "connect" at all between defence and midfield, there were too many long passes for my liking. The way we played last year was much more effective and attractive to watch. Im hoping the lads are still tired from pre-season which tends to be the case for a few players in early season and that in a few weeks we ll start to connect better and see fitter players. Im not sure how good the other teams in this league are, but Im confident we can match most of them and wont be relegated. eric On Sun, Aug 8, 2010 at 6:14 AM, Richard Walker <[email protected]> wrote: > I’m slightly confused.
