I suspect that when Paynter is fit, Becchio will be the one to make way.
Grayson's preferred style seems to be to have one physical striker
(Becchio / Kandol / Showumni)to create openings, and one smaller, faster
player to score the goals (Beckford, Grella, Somma). I read Grayson say
that Paynter wasn't a replacement for Beckford because they were different
types of player. For what it's worth, although it was rarely pretty to
watch, I think Becchio did an effective job for us last season, and he's
an adequate squad player for this season.

When fit I think Grayson's preferred pairing will be McCormack and Paynter.

Last season Becchio hardly ever seemed to be caught offside, but this
season he's getting caught offside a lot. I think that's because he
played deeper last season so Beckford could play up against the last
defender where his pace could cause more problems for the opposition.
This season Becchio's having to lead the line at the moment, owing to
injuries / McCormack not having signed yet.

Becchio's technically a very limited player, but he was one of the better
attackers in League 1 as a whole last season. As for the Championship,
there are plenty of strikers in this league who will play all season and
scrape 10 goals, so I think he's probably reached his level. Will he
score 10 goals for us? Well, I don't expect him to be a first choice if
the whole squad's fit, so probably not.

I Now we have McCormack, I wouldn't be surprised to see us revert to
4-4-2, with Watt moving to the left wing and Bradley Johnson to the bench
(or possibly left back in place of Bessone who has had a poor start to the
season, despite being picked for this division's "team of the season" for
2009-10).
