- The ref in the game against Man U for (a) not sending off Barthez when he
kicked Harte, despite giving us a penalty, and (b) then giving Viduka offside
when he wasn't for the own "goal" that would have won us the match and given us
enough points to finish in the Champions League that season. That disallowed og
still rankles with me as well (even though with my rational hat on - very
rarely worn when considering LUFC matters! - I have to admit that it was just
about a correct decision...........it seems counter-intuitive that on og could
be disallowed for offside, but Bowyer I think it was, not Viduka, was in an
offside position when the ball was played to him at the far post, and Brown
probably knew he was there and that influenced him in trying to cut the ball
out and thereby diverting it into his own net.) There was also a penalty given
to Newcastle in the 3-4 home defeat for a totally unintentional Danny Mills
handball which I still seethe about. I've seen 100 similar
incidents since then which have all gone unpunished.

My wider point is that with the squad Ridsdale had given him , even with the
injuries and even the effect of the trials (which he, ie O'L exacerbated)
O'Leary should have been able to safely qualify for the CL without having to
rely on last-minute own goals or the award or otherwise of dubious penalties.

But anyway, it is all shit down the sewer now, so I agree............let's
focus on the future.
