I heard Payner has "a reaction" after the closed-doors friendly against 'boro. How long that means he'll be out for, I don't know - at least another 3-4 weeks I suspect. Maybe longer - he mised most of pre- season after all. You're right about Johnson being limited on the left, but Gradel's not been great in the last couple of games and Sam has been very inconsistent. Johnson is still only 22-23, so I think it's a bit soon to write him off yet, and he wasn't getting a lot of help in midfield on Tuesday.
