I think the departure of Mark's mate Imran was the killer blow. The Lards team tactic of "hang of for dear life, hoof it up field and hope the quick bloke can beat their entire defence and score" (a.k.a. "The King Of Tonga Tactic") was struck a savage and irreperable blow when quick bloke stopped coming leaving us with "hang on for dear life but inevitably capitulate eventually" (a.k.a. "the Wiggy Years").
Heavy drinking was the obvious solace.
