Solace? I thought it was pre-match training / warm up! (and also
occasionally during the match as well - 11 players all with a drink in their
hand!)
We played AEK Athens one year (I think it was them, anyway!) and they
couldn't believe that we were "taking fluids on board" before the match.
They were invited to join us and declined. We went on to win 3-0 and then
they sulked and wouldn't join us for a post match snifter!
Happy days!
Maverick.

I think the departure of Mark's mate Imran was the killer blow.
The Lards team tactic of "hang of for dear life, hoof it up field and
hope the quick bloke can beat their entire defence and score" (a.k.a.
"The King Of Tonga Tactic") was struck a savage and irreperable blow
when quick bloke stopped coming leaving us with "hang on for dear life
but inevitably capitulate eventually" (a.k.a. "the Wiggy Years").
Heavy drinking was the obvious solace.
