We were at our greatest when DO'L decided to break the Graham mold and play home grown kids. A team with Lees, Whyte, Howson & the brothers two on the brink excites. Add to that Gradel,Clayton & Snodgras plus the grit of Kisnboro [sp?] & maybe O'Dea to add to the mix and we have the hard nucleus of a good team with bags of potential.
That was O'Leary way. But Grayson and O'Leary have this weakness of overlooking their strengths-- building, molding and training and doing something else. O'Leary got big headed and brought in the cretin fro ManU and then made daft buys. Grayson looks for well past it knackers yard material in the hope of a glorious autumnal career. I some how think that the malignant Stoat wont allow Grayson to do what he would not do anyway. When he went out and bought Gradel & the goalie he [Grayson ] was allowed. Sometimes Grayson picks gems [Gradel, Somma the new goalkeeper] but generally out and out crap. In fact I still don't know how to get my head round him. He is stubborn and tough. He has a long term plan and a vision of what he wants. He is very loyal to those who are loyal but will be ruthless. If you are 'finished' in his books there's no going back. But sometimes he seems to have lost the plot. When things are wrong it takes ages for him to act. All in all we are still moving forward. I wonder if Grayson can continue to develop? The key to all our successes always was bringing the youth through. I think he may become a great. IMO that is the next stage in Grayson's development. Of all our managers since Revie he has the potential. I'd love to hear what others think.
