--- On Tue, 29/11/11, Richard Walker said4-5-1 with Gradel and Snodgrass at the
helm = 7th in the league.
That is true RIch but apart from Gradel - the 4 5 1 last night consists of the
same or better players than last season
McCarthy and Lonergan are better than SmeichalConnolly = same playerKisnorbo
and Lees = better than any centre back pairing we used last yearPugh = better
than McCartneyThe back 5 unit better than last seasonIn midifield - Howson and
Snodgrass = same playersClayton = much much better than KilkennyBrown = will
put as same as Johnson, he has a better pedigree but has to prove fitness
etcWhite = not as good, especially in terms of scoring goals as GradelHowever
as a unit last nights 5 is better than last seasonsBecchio = same player ( with
better back up options - Keogh better up front on his own than Paynter or
Somma, and McCormack and Nunez both better than they were last season for us
So apart from losing Gradel who was man of the season and replacing him with
White (for whom we all have high hopes) this seasons players are better overall
than last and the team unit is also much better.
That is not to say that I think we should play 4 5 1 at home or indeed for
every away game (our away record this season has been outstanding with the 4 4
2 prior to last night)
Howson, one of our better players seems to be the one who benefits most from
the 4 5 1 formation - on the radio he totally ran the game last night. Getting
the best out of our star man may be the way forward in certain games
Dave
