When I put my phone on this morning I had a text from my son saying he was too
drunk etc from his works do to make the game, then in the pub another mate got
a call saying he had to get back home due to an emergency , well football wise
they were the lucky ones !  Yes it was that bad, It was awful. I had high hopes
going to the game and thought that this was a gettable 3 points and it should
have been. They did nothing over the course of the game to suggest they were
any good, far from it, but we were appalling. Even worse was the absolute lack
of effort and commitment we showed today,If I had to sum it all up in one word,
that word would be APATHETIC - and not just on the pitch, the 23,000 fans who
showed up were just as badThis game really showed how bad things have got at
ER. We are all just going through the motions, There is no belief and no
passion either on the terraces or on the pitch. I don't think those of you
watching from afar or who don't
go to games realise quite how bad things are - the top 6 place is covering
over the cracks. As for the game itself an early sortie from Reading did not
look to be dangerous but a couple of defenders failed to put in any effort and
their winger got the ball, Lonergan went towards him and then stopped, the
winger chipped into the air, Ok, still no danger, but somehow the ball ended in
the net . Total fluke. Instead of it being the kick up the arse we sometimes
need,it was enough to win the game. For the remaining 87mins or so we seemed OK
to lose 1 -0. We created one chance all game, a cross from Connolly and a back
flick from Clayton, they had 3 or 4 good opportunites - a good save and a great
clearance by White and two clear headers stick in the memoryA triple
substituiton did nothing to alter things in any meaningfull way as we went
through the motions,Trust me things are not all right at ER - whether it is
Bates or Grayson or the pair of them or
something else who knows, but the very sarcastic  chant" Bring on Jan and the
emergency loans" brought the biggest cheer of the day
To be honest. just like the team and the fans at the game, I can't really be
bothered to say anything else
Dave
