During the Arse game I heard the commentator say as we broke forward with the ball "and he has got Becchio lumbering forward to join him"My first thought was that Rich would be creaming himself at the use of the word 'lumbering' and I was amazed that no-one else picked up on it - I now reckon the commentator must have said 'thundering' (???) On Becchio I see and agree with the comments of Dom Matteo in the YEPhttp://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/toothless_leeds_united_lost_the_vital_killer_touch_matteo_1_4136019
He obviously rated Becchio in the past , and I have always tried to defend his effectiveness if not his ability The biggest surprise by far is the form of Becchio. I can’t understand what’s happened to him.For three years he was Mr Reliable – someone who scored goals regularly and laid on a few too. The thing I always liked about him was his attitude and his workrate. Even in those frustrating games where nothing was going right, he’d make sure the opposition centre-backs reached full-time covered in bruises and were absolutely shattered.Watching Becchio recently has been like watching a completely different footballer. His touch isn’t there and he’s failed to make an impression on defences who probably expected to be bullied by him.On his day, he can be a nightmare. I know he started the season late because of injury but we’re four months on from his comeback and he still looks a long way off the pace.I’m pretty sure that in seasons gone by, Simon would have seen Becchio as the first name on his team sheet or thereabouts. To be honest, as things stand I don’t believe Becchio is doing enough to justify his place in the team.I can see a perfectly good reason for persisting with him – basically to let him play his way into form and fitness – but I’d have expected him to come good by now. Something isn’t right. _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
