Sorry John but your post proves Dave's point. You really don't understand what is or has been going on for the last 7 years. This isn't ice hockey and this isn't Vancouver. This is English football in Yorkshire. Yorkshire folk, as you may recall, don't take kindly to being ripped off. Neither do they respond to being lied to, when the lies stretch back 7 years then distrust becomes a deep rooted resentment. Nobody thinks staying away is supporting the team, nobody thinks that they can stay away for long BUT other than voting with our feet how else would you suggest we show our displeasure? You also deftly use statistics to enhance your point 'under 21000' would more commonly be written as 'over 20000'. I would suggest that a crowd of over 20000 for a televised game on a cold March evening against a club from the south coast would be acceptable even to Bates. I would also suggest that 20,000 attendees from 800,000 population is a better statistic than 50,000 from 2,000,000 population. The swathes of seats that are vacant around the half way line are partly because Bates in his infinite wisdom decided to raise the prices for these seats to the most expensive in the ground. Take a look at the ticket pricing on the official site. Also, a regular at any football match will tell you that the best atmosphere will, and has, always been found behind the goals and more specifically in the home teams 'kop end'. If the malaise isn't something new then why does it bother you? I would say the malaise is most definitely something new and was virtually non-existent during the -15 points season. If the support we maintained during the recent relegations and seasons in League One doesn't lead you to believe that there is something wrong NOW then I don't think anything ever will and Dave's point is fully proven.
