Dave - thanks for the report, I was part-timing again I'm afraid. I even gave up an offer of a free ticket from work, that's how desperate it has been for me recently watching Becchio. If I'd had an inkling he had been dropped (or rested) I would have been down to the ground like a shot. I'll be one of those annoying c*nts that wants quarters, semis and final tickets though. Don't you just hate fans like that. Anyway, I'm glad Varney did well and to be honest I'm not surprised. We've been crying out for someone with pace to play alongside Diouf. Someone who drags a couple of defenders out of position and someone who can run with the ball and make things happen. This means that when Diouf does get the ball he's not surrounded by 3 defenders and not having to make things happen on his own. It is no coincidence that our best performance has come with Becchio out of the side. Forget the goals argument and the fact he can't control a ball I actually believe he is a MAJOR reason for some of our disappointing play i.e. the long balls, the aimless balls - we only do that because nobody is making runs up front, nobody is running into the channels and nobody is looking to get beyond the opposition defence. I notice the management are now starting to question Becchio however there's always an excuse for him - tired, needs a rest, doing all the right things and just needs a goal (I heard Alan Shearer's 13 match without a goal spell mentioned). I'm also hearing a few Becchio fans realising that there may be better options and ways forward for us. I think (I hope) the penny is dropping because for me he's not even good enough to play in this division. Big decision now for Warnock. If he goes with Diouf and Becchio at Brighton then I will be massively disappointed. No doubt Varney will need a rest. Wemb-er-ley , Wemb-er-ley
