I wonder how long it will be before Sky pick on fans tonight for homophobic chanting ? In their expose on racism a few months back they did bring up homophobia and used us at Brighton singing 'we can see you holding hands' and 'does your boyfriend know you're here' as examples. They were not best pleased when well known gay comic and Arsenal fan* Matt Lucas said he thought both chants were amusing and that if Arsenal ever played Brighton he would probably sing along with them !
Whilst I accept that there is (albeit slightly blurred on occasion) a line that should not be crossed it would be a shame to sanitise football even more. I can remember as a kid how Scouse fans were lauded for their humour with the oft quoted witticism - oi Summerbee your nose is offside - being a prime example. Anyone shouting the equivalent now would probably be arrested and banned for anti semitism !
