I don't necessarily attach much blame to anyone for the Sport Capital deal failing - these things happen, and the new information that caused Sport Capital to reduce their bid (whether the realisation of the ongoing monthly losses (it would surprise me if they hadn't already known this) or some other nasty little contingent liability, is one of those things. They were within their rights to try and adjust their bid to reflect the change, GFH were within their rights to say the deal doesn't work at the revised figure. Unfortunate but life.
However, the goings on during Friday and the perfect storm of lunacy that came together with GFH apparently (for reasons that may come to light after this storm has settled) desperate to conclude a deal as a matter of urgency and Cellino desperate to get in control, and coming to a head on transfer deadline day, makes Cellino and GFH look inept and opportunistic. GFH basically abandoned ship and left a quite extraordinary management vacuum on one of the club's most important days in years. All of that mob have to take accountability for that. Cellino was guilty of crass corporate management (trying to shoe horn his man in and getting McD out before he'd even bought the club) that does little to reassure anyone that he has learnt the errors of his ways given his past convictions. I don't buy the argument that Cellino can be a good thing, just because he will be a new broom, take no shit bloke with lots of cash. If Bates had got 200m behind him, would that have made everything about his reign ok? No, because he would sitll have been a graceless, thuggish oaf that dragged our club's name through the mud, acted solely for himself and sowed division at every turn as a way of maintaining control. We don't need that again. We're all wearied by the last decade or so at Leeds. I suppose it comes down to whether your attitude is now: Camp 1 - I'm just sick of us being rubbish and second tier. I want quality, I want drive and I want promotion. Just give me that and I'm happy. It's not nice guys that matter, it's success. Camp 2 - I'm just sick of the off-field division, shennanigans, succession of people taking from our club, but giving little. I just crave stability, normality and unity. To ensure our football club is Leeds UNITED, at whatever level that is, without feeling our soul is being eroded with each passing year. I'm a Camp 2 fan. But I'm not saying Camp 1 is wrong, and I fully understand it. Cheers, David On Mon, Feb 3, 2014 at 4:07 PM, <[email protected]> wrote: > My guess is that its to do with due diligence.
