The fact that when I walked through my front door , my wife took one look at my
face and said " I take it they lost again?" shows that this was not a great
victory. In fact the opposite is true , we beat the worst team in the division
and did not even deserve the narrow victory that we got. I have not seen /
heard any post match stuff but if Evans comes out with any "we bounced back /
we made up for Brighton " etc , he is talking nonsense. All we did today was
keep him in his job for a week and, pretty much, ensured that we are not going
to be dragged into a relegation fight. It was not impressive in the slightest -
we were largely outplayed by a team who are rock bottom of the division and
were 13 points below us before the game started. Only one very good save and
two bad misses prevented us from going behind, and if we had done so the odds
of us turning that around would have been large.Evans made two obvious changes
with Wootton and Bamba paying the price for their mistakes v Watford and
Brighton respectively, and Mowatt also got the chop as we went 4 4 2  with
Coyle dropping to right back and Antenucci and Carayol coming in alongside the
returning Bellusci. Hurray we thought,Evans was going to do what he has been
promising since day one -a Leeds united team going all out to win.It never
really turned out like that as we were put on the back foot by a Bolton team
fighting for their lives. They were poor but still managed to out pass and out
play us (with help from some very poor anti Leeds decisions from the ref and
linesman)We created very little and 'rode our luck' as they missed two easy
chances (one should have been a foul anyway) as they shot one wide and one over
the top when they should have scored. Silvestri also did what he is good at and
made an excellent save.
At the other end we stuggled to create anything of note until a few minutes
before half time when a corner fell to Antenucci and he hooked it round his
shoulder and into the net - a great finish from a player, who, once again,
showed that he is a decent player and could be a real hit in this division with
the right team. That goal meant that the team went off to muted applause rather
than boos.Coyle had gone off with an injury and was replaced by Berardi who
showed how much better than Wootton he isSecond half we hoped that we would
really take it to them and maybe, just maybe, score 3 goals at home in the
league. We did start Ok and had a few bits and bobs but never really put them
to the sword as Carayol and Doukara both did nothing to earn their
over-inflated salaries.
Then around the hour mark Antenucci found space down our left and beat the
defender, looked up and put the ball across to Doukara - he fluffed it and the
ball somehow came back to Antenucci. He decided that he was not going to trust
another player this time and curled a beauty into the top corner - great
finish. The crowd were impressed and for a few minutes the three goal game was
on. But this is Leeds and true to form we stopped playing and let them back
into it. A cross was met by a good finish and suddenly out of the blue it was 1
2 with 15 nervy minutes to go. We did not know whether to stick or twist, to go
for the 3rd or defend what we had , so we pretty much did neither as we let
them control the tempo. Dallas came on for the totally ineffectual Carayol but
whilst he tried hard he did not create anything. We had a couple of half
chances but were relieved when a long range shot from them went past the
post. The 5 minutes added time did nothing to help the nerves but it passed with
no further worries and the final whistle was met with relief.  I did hear a
girl in the bus queue state that there was a silence and mood in the queue that
was more reminiscent of a draw than a win, and that pretty much summed it up -
we won but meh - who caresThe anti Cellino brigade had their fun with a fly
over proclaiming 'time to go' and the 21,000 crowd showed that fans have had
enoughSo 3 points, valuable to Evans and his job prospects and enough to
prevent us being embroiled in a relegation battle but 3 points we may not
deserve and nothing, the return of Berardi apart, to give us any hope for the
futureDave
