been ill latter part of the week and only went today on the proviso (from my
wife) that I did not drink pre match !! Well that was 2 great decisions,
getting out of my sickbed to watch that and doing it sober (if not drug free,
thank f8ck for morphine)As Nick says if this game had ended after 40mins
instead of 90, things would be totally different. I did not agree with the team
line up but for 40mins it worked and it also looked as if we had a decent
bench, with players (Carayol apart maybe) who could all have expected to start,
and this in turn would put the players who were picked under pressure to
perform for their place. The ground was pretty full (29+K) and it was reasonably
lively with the dog bothering fans making a decent noise in 'their' cup final
(we do not care about them at all - that is why the crowd was so big of course)
- 3 wins and a decent pricing initiative bringing fans back. It started like a
real derby with lots of tackles and a good bit of niggle. We looked to be
getting slighlty on top when one of theirs skipped past Taylor (?) and was
tripped in the box, Definite penalty. But Silvestri pulled off a great save and
caught the rebound, top class keeping. We then got a stronghold in the game
with Bridcutt here there and everywhere, pulling the strings. For once we
looked like this match cared to us as much as them - so often in derbies we
have been found wanting in this regard. Ante and Doukara were buzzing round
their centre backs giving them no time to settle and things were going well.
Bridcutt then nipped into a tackle took the ball and put over a pin point
cross. Dallas timed his run well and headed home - a great ,well worked goal,
Dallas then(second player in a week for us) got booked for jumping into the
crowd, but he was just one of many bookings that half. We continued to control
the game for 15mins or so  attacking with intent but failing to make any clear
cut chances.
Then they got a corner and this once again proved our Achilles heel and
suddenly it was 1 1. We never really recovered, We spent the last few minutes
of the half on the back foot and never got it backSecond half, the less said
the better - we never really started and all our old faults came back. Mowatt
made a total hash of it and gave a suicidal back pass to Silvestri who sliced
it out for  a corner. We failed to clear and that was it 1 2. Our heads dropped
and within 6 or 7 minutes they carved us apart twice more to double their
score. 77minutes gone - 1 4 down and the crowd had had enough, literally
thousands left at that point and the trickle out continued for the rest of the
game. Silvestri had to pull off two good saves, one with his feet to stop the
score being even more embarrassing, The only good thing in the second half was
the timekeeper only putting 3 minutes on the board despite 6 subs, 3 goals and
subsequent celebration, 2 'injuries' to their keeper and another player and a
number of arguments with the ref (We expected / feared 5 or 6 mins)
So it proves , what we all thought, the three victories on the bounce were just
a blip and not a genuine change in fortunes and the start of something good.
Where do we go from here ? No idea - given the result there was not much anti
Cellino chanting, so the group doing all the hi vis demos do seem in a
minority, but it is hard to see how we will or can progress under his
ownership. Is Evans the man? Who knows, he has done some good things and the
players he brought in Bridcutt (MoM today again) and Diagoura both look like
decent buys (Carayol a spur purchase, less so) - but can we afford , either
financially or as a business model to sack him ?
So a day that began with optimism, which lasted 41 minutes, has ended totally
and utterly downbeat and disheartened.
On the bright side I can take some more morphine in 10 minutes !

So, in control for 40 minutes, great double save from a penalty by Silvestri,
good goal by Dallas heading home a far post cross by Bridcutt; Bridcutt was in
charge in the first half...then slack marking at a corner, free header and
they're back in the game.

After that we gave up, barely made a chance, they ran through our midfield with
speed and purpose, the back 4 were nowhere...total fucking shambles.
Disgraceful capitulation.

End of.
