Does you bro get iplayer on the firestick? I assume it doesn't without VPN.

My brother lives near carcassonne as well. It seems to me all the dregs of the
UK drift down thru France and then just butt up against the pyrenees. Did u
see the BBC article about locals in the area being worried about the brits
leaving?

Kodi on a Firestick works well - and is cheap
I've got a couple set up for permanent use and one to take on hols if required.
And gave one to my brother (who lives in Carcassonne nowadays) last Christmas
which is still working well without any maintenance after a year.
Plus, you get the usual apps (such as Netflix) in a handy format, if prepared
to stump up a few quid per month.

Takes someone knowledgeable to set them up, but easy enough to use (assuming
you think Kodi is easy to use - I can't get my wife to get the hang of it).

Setting up VPNs on them is trickier - can be done _ I've got my NordVPN working
- but it's a faff,

Android TV boxes the obvious answer to this. Can be a bit fiddly though. Maybe
an Amazon fire stick with other software side loaded would work well

I use mobdro, TVTap and what’s now called sports TV 2 (used to be sports
schedule TV) and of course the LUTV app for sport

Cartoon HD and showbox for films/series

With a VPN you can do iplayer itv channel 4 etc...
