He is going to be hard to replace - they obviously did not think that Halme or
Diaz were good enough and so still let them go knowing Pontus was off - I know
Struiyk is highly rated but going into another long hard season with just
Cooper and unproven White and the young yet to play a first team game Struiyk
is madness ! OK Berardi did well right till the last game but he is not getting
any better at his age etc, putting Ayling or Phillips there both weakens the
centreback pairing and we miss them in their 'proper' positions
Pontus leaving is no big surprise the odd thing is the fee - a lot lower than
the £10m we were all wanting as he left for a Premiership team- and the fact
that of all the teams he is going to Brentford - not sure how his ego and being
the 'fans favourite' will cope at an away game when he runs to the away end
with his fist pumping and then stands there in front of 200 fans !!
It also puts more pressure on Bielsa - at present he has escaped all criticism
for the collapse of last season - we were pretty much ALL agreed that we really
really wanted him to stay, but letting your best centre half leave (or even
getting rid of him) and not bringing in a goal poacher and a number 10 (to
replace Saiz) could lead to fans turning if we do not start the season well
DavePS - Sad news re Leeds old boy Vinnie whose wife died yesterday - she had
been very ill for a long time but it is still sad news. I bought his
autobiography and remember that in the foreward he said that all profits were
going to the hospital who had looked after her and that was 15 years ago or
whatever
