Even before his cancer diagnosis, Guy's health issues didn't permit him to
participate on the pitch in the Lard's annual Amsterdam tournament in the last
decade, but he was always there for moral support and the post-match beer
sessions - the cancellation of the June 2020 tournament makes it 18 months
since I last saw him.
The 2019 Amsterdam post-match beer session started with the Lards watching
Leeds beat Derby 1-0 in the first leg of the play-off and afterwards I arranged
with Guy to meet up for the 2nd leg back in a pub in London as he was there for
work the following week.
Football-wise, not an occasion to recall with any fondness, but we agreed
afterwards that it had been a great season and we were finally on the right
track - at least he has been able to experience our return to the Premiership
playing the sort of football we can all appreciate.
He was also a big cycling fan and a few of us on the list would converse
on-line about the Grand Tours and the Classics throughout the year.
Awful news in these appalling times - RIP Guy.
Cheers, Al

Some really sad news just in from Amsterdam. Guy Thornton passed away today.

He’d recently been diagnosed with cancer and had just had his first chemo
treatment.

Will pass on more info as I hear it.
