Watching the highlights of a pretty abject performance yesterday, a problem occurred to me: Bielsa has gotten players like Kalvin and Bamford playing in a way that no other coach has ever managed. And when the team succeeds it’s because he’s got them playing in a way that none of our previous coaches ever have. So for all the problems we’ve got - a small squad, no plan B, a reluctance to change underperforming players - I wonder if a different coach would be able to change anything, given the players we’ve got? I mean, Bielsa’s the coach who turned Luke Ayling into someone people talk about being called up for England. Is there anyone else who can do that, or would they need to spent £30m on a new right back?
In other words, if Bielsa is the best manager for this group of players, don’t we kind of have to just stick with him, at least until we have 11 Raphinhas available for selection…? Ed.
