The " no-one likes us" derby as some repoter called jt, ended as it should with 3pts and us " top top top of the league" It was a bitter sweet day for me, arrived in the pub to the news that my all time musical hero Steve Harley had died , but left Leeds train station with us no1 This was a game that on paper we should have won, and we all knew the type of game it would be, the typical championship grind it out v a physical time wasting team who had come to spoil not entertain. We needed to make sure we stood up to them at corners and give them nothing , and then take at least one of the chances that would inevitably come our way. Thats exactly how it unfolded. I dont recall them creating a single decent chance, a couple of corners gave some cause for concern, and Mes had a couple of regulation saved to make , but this was as straightforward as it gets. We controlled things from start to finish, though at 1-0 things are always going to be a bit nervy but our defence is rock solid so no real panic. Our goals were great - the first a nice ball by Georginio, well controlled at pace by Gnonto who powered on and unleashed a thunderbolt into the corner of the net, no stopping those and 2 in 2 for the prodigal son. Whilst willy is making the most of things, his mate Cree is having a hard time, nothing quite working - he has gone 5 or 6 now with no goals or assists. He came close at the end of the first half with his trademark cutting inside and bending his shot into the far corner, unfortunately, and typical at the moment the keeper pulled off a great save. Second half they made the first quadruple sub ive ever seen but to no avail, we replaced Gnonto with the equally good Dan James and he soon got our second, the decisive goal and the one that takes us top. He made a meal of it, Georginio with more magic and his 2nd assist, pulled it back and all DJ had to do was fire home. Instead he trapped the ball, took another touch to send the defender the wrong way and fired home through a defender and the keeper, strange way to do it but it worked. We then hit the post twice, first Georginio having his first attempt saved chased the ball down and his cut back bounced off the keeper onto the post. In the dying minutes DJ let fly with another shot and it hit the post and went wide. So a fairly comfortable and basic championship win, but a vital one. Now the pressure is on us to stay there Final comment, we had a huge shout for a penalty and probably second yellow for them when Roden was flattened, but i did not really see it.
