Just on train back. Weird weather, weird game. Should have been 10-3 but it
wasn’t. Aaronson missed best chance of match with the last kick of the match.
He did come on and score though. I thought the subs killed us, totally
disrupted our play and there was no options at all on the wing.I think Pompey
are a well organised side and they took their goals really well however we were
adopting some really weird tactics in the first half. For a period of around 25
mins we dropped to a back 3 with Struijk at LB, Rodon centre and Bogle army Rb
which left Firpo to play at right wing !!!! Crazy. Their 1st goal , Bogle was
on the left of midfield totally out of position- ball was played into acres of
space for the Pompey left winger. Really poor tactics from us.Their pen, I was
in North East so can’t really comment but it looked harsh and if it wasn’t tgen
it was shit defending. How easy did Meslier make it for him ? Fuck me, how shit
are we at saving pens. At least stand up and make him put it in the corner. He
was down on the floor before the Pompey guy had started his run up. Piss poor.
I would have done better.
Other thoughts:Rothwell - got journeyman written all over him. Not the player
you bring on when pushing for a winner. I did say that about Gruev’s first game
so hopefully he’ll improve.Rutter - usual mixture of being unplayable and great
passing followed by losing the ball and down icing half the game on the ground.
Joseph - I was impressed, he looks fit and strong and was unlucky not to get a
goal. Not sure about Ampadu in midfield. He got through a lot of work but he
looked at times like a central defender playing in midfield.
Aaronson - wish he’d put that chance away. I wasn’t happy with him leaving but
not gonna boo the lad and I reckon he’ll do well this season. He’s good at this
level .Willy - I thought he was poor but he took his goal well.
Time for some refreshment ! .

Yeah I'm nervous about being the overwhelming favourites. Apart from owt
else it means we'll have to deal with It's-Your-Cup-Final Syndrome every
away game, with the stadium (for once)  full of baying inbreds and bang
average players suddenly deciding to play like Zidane or Messi because they
are facing the (Not Famous Anymore, oh not not at all) Mighty Whites
