Personally I think most Leeds fans are as thick as fuck. The Kop sing "Luciano
Becchio, Luciano Becchio ... " yet the bloke can't play the simplest of passes
and continues to miss chance after chance whislt maintaining his 1 in 4 goal
ratio under Grayson. I actually sat in the Kop for the Huddersfield game and
was sat next to a Luciano Becchio chanter, so I asked him if he really rated
him. Reply was 'Nah, but he's a trier'. Great ! We all like a trier don't we.
For my money Beckford has worked as hard as anyone in most of the games I've
seen this season and you just can't argue with his goalscoring record. Does he
not produce in the big games ? Maybe sometimes but what's the biggest game of
the season for us to date ?  I'd say against Norwich 'cos they're our biggest
and best rivals in my opinion. We all know what happened there  ? Also, what
happened last season when we didn't have Beckford in the team ? We struggled
like fuck ? Becchio
suddenly had no space and we all realised what a shite, limited player he is ?

So the fuckwits can continue to sing for Becchio, whilst I will continue to
support Beckford, our only striker with true pace. You can't replace that at
this level.

Tim, I've been doing reasoned arguments on here for years and its got me
nowhere. So I thought, for once why bother...the end result would be the same.

If Beckford scores at OT the Beckford-haters will all just queue up to say "he's
only doing it cos he's in the shop window", and if he doesn't score then it'll
be all the usual "never shows in big games"...makes you wonder why he'd bother
at all really doesn't it? So no I won't take your bet. But I still reckon that
if we keep him (and currently the only reason he'd go is cos half the numpties
"supporting" the team he plays for, think that a goal ratio of 2 in 3 is not
good enough...does not prove that he works hard enough "for the team") then he
will score more league goals this season than all of his forward line colleagues
added together.

Just a point about reasoned argument Tim, you can't say "we can't use the stats,
the history" to judge a footballer. On that basis I propose our forward line for
OT is Caspar and Hughesie because judging everything on what might happen and
not taking any history into account, its about their turn to bag a few.
Beckford's in a lean spell - the team hasn't been firing all around - missing
Kisnorbo, Naylor, Higgs and Johnson - the midfield, not quite sure whether to
play Kilkenny, Howson, Doyle - that doesn't make him a bad striker (at this
level)

Not every footballer has to charge around like a headless chicken to be
effective (Tony Currie, Gary Lineker, Mark Viduka, christ even the blessed Lord
Lucas of Radebe looked somewhat less than switched on sometimes). Sure every
team needs workers, but not every player in the team has to be that kind of
player. That doesn't mean that I don't think Beckford earns his goals, I think
that forwards earn goals in different ways - Beckford makes the runs he thinks
are worth making - not always for his own benefit, see the late header recently
when he went up against the keeper to set up Gradel. It's just not appreciated.

If it is "so easy" playing up front in the current Leeds Utd team that anyone
could get the goals why don't they? Why is it only Beckford who does? I'll give
you a list - Vokes, Kandol, Showunmi, Grella, Trundell, Becchio - why can't any
of them match his strike rate?

That header from 6 yards that Becchio missed on Saturday...Jesus if that had
been Beckford half the crowd would have been after him. But because Lucciano
runs himself into the ground he's somehow thought "easier to forgive".

None of the above means Beckford is perfect, far from it, but I want to see
Leeds Utd out of the third division and moving up and it strikes me that we have
a much better chance of achieving that with a guy who is a proven goalscorer
(and who puts the shit up the other team's defenders). We've only got one of
those and its Jermaine. If he played for anyone else in this league we'd be
coveting him something rotten.

As far as speculation goes - I think he could probably do OK in the Championship
and I hope that he does that with us next year. I don't think he has the
temperament or touch to make it in the Premiership.
