in preparation for iwd 99 and with the intent of making some ground this
year - a project has been started to list questions for politicians to
answer - a 'people's question time' - accountability is the name of the
game if we live in a democracy

these questions will be short and to the point - they will be asked to
respond before iwd so that we can get their responses to women at the
local
marches and rallies on the day and will be published on the iwd at
www.isis.aust.com/iwd so that they can be accountable to the oz
community
for their stance - hopefully if/as there is difference in political
positions, a debate can get going directly with them through the iwd
forum
- all would be welcome to participate

this is an attempt to lift 'women's issues' and human rights issues off
the
party political platform

there are so many issues that affect our lives that can be addressed
through this method and i think the approach can be effective if they
know
that the results will be sent out nationally and internationally - a
special broadsheet will be produced in 99 to record the project -
articles
welcome

if you would like to submit questions/issues, please send them asap as
we
want to give them time to respond or follow them up for a response

hoping for change before 2000

ps the iwd web is being updated with 99 info and restructured -
suggestions
welcome

cheers
