S11 Memorial
Given the brutality of the police response to the
protests against the World Economic Forum from
September 11- 13, a number of people have come
together to plan a formal ceremony of grieving and
healing for all those who attended the protests over
the three days, family and supporters.
People have been profoundly shocked by the attitude of
the Victorian government to this outrageous display of
violence. As part of the process of healing from this
event, the Memorial will provide an opportunity for
participants and supporters of S11 to publicly air
their feelings and come together to grieve.
On Sunday 22 October 2000 at 2pm people are invited to
gather at the park on the corner of Whiteman and
Queensbridge Streets. A ceremony involving a Christian
minister and a member of the Buddhist community will
be performed. This is a time to sing, remember and
heal. The group will then process to the front of the
Casino where a minute silence will be observed to
remember those injured and to remember the
extraordinary event of which we were all a part.
Please wear black and bring flowers.
A workshop to paint banners and placards will be held
on Saturday 7 October at 10am at Trades Hall, Victoria
St, Melbourne. For more information or to help
organise call Joanne on 9326 8535 or Lenny on 9471
9972.
