When the birth, death and marriage records are indexed and Census records are available it is very easy to get a large database. These are Germans from Russia and if you are related to one, you are part of a very large family. I have no one in my database that is not connected to my lines. All of these people are related in different ways to each other. The Germans had large families, from 8 to 16 children on average, so it does not take long to get a large database. I have been doing research on my father's family now for 10 years and that is how I got my large database. I am back into the1600's with several of my own personal lines.
I love Legacy and also switched from FTM because of problems with it dropping names. So far I have not had that problem with Legacy. I am still doing clean up work though because of the errors I got when I transferred from FTM to Legacy. That was not a smooth operation. I am still learning to use Legacy, but am very glad I changed. As for size, it really is not that large. Of course I do keep my computer upgraded, rebuilding it every two to three years and have a large memory due to the photo's I also have for my families. Many of these families came to America but not all. I also have to research the exit records from Bessarabia, Russia and EWZ files created in Poland. Many of the families left in Russia died in Stalin's death camps in Siberia. Now many of the descendants that survived are back in Germany. --- On Thu, 1/14/10, Bill Wood <[email protected]> wrote: From: Bill Wood <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Ref: Tagging To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 2:32 AM Hello, A bit off topic but I am curious Accumulating a tree of 40,000 people must have been a massive effort. How did you do it ? How many Megs is the Legacy file ? Does Legacy cope adequately with the records for 40,000 people ie smooth running and no hanging and quick responses ?
