Brian: You may be swamping yourself in details of questionable value. Using the Naturalization Records template in Legacy my Master Source citation would look like this:
New York State, Petitions for Naturalization filed in New York City, 1792-1989; digital images, Ancestry.com(http://ancestry.com). I'd bring that Master Source onto the Source Clipboard and add details like: Petition No. 311001-311330; Naturalization Record Number 372520; Lehman, Ida; Petition for Naturalization; April 29,1938. And in the details I'd also include text from the image such as address, age, etc. Or you could attach a copy of the image if you're into that. This way you can use the same Master Source if you have other family members who were naturalized in New York. Personally, I never include all the Ancestry.com boilerplate although you might want to include the National Archives data to be really thorough. There are certainly other ways to handle the citation depending on what you want the lead element to be, but this is one suggestion. I have seen "Evidence Explained" by Elizabeth Shown Mills. And I am not afraid to buy it,however I think for now,It is more than I need or am ready to understand. I have tried and compared source writer and basic, and When I created MY basic source,it had more info than writer so I stayed with the style you see, EX. (Master and Details)"Petition for Naturalization from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, 1897-1944;National Archives, Washington, D.C.;Ancestry.com. Selected U.S. Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1790-1974 (World Archives Project) [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2009; (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1972, 1457 rolls); Records of District Courts of the United States, Record Group 21; National Archives, Washington, D.C.Archive Roll: 1304(Roll 1144); Petition No.311001-311330; Naturalization Record Number: 372520; Lehman Ida;Petition for Naturalization;April 29,1938,Cert.No.372520" I am really hoping to see examples of sources written by people who know what they are doing. Once again, thank you for your assistance.
