Brian,

If you want to see examples, that is exactly what the Mills book, _Evidence
Explained), is all about. There are thousands of citation examples, as well
as an index to the examples themselves, apart from the text. It may be
exactly what you are looking for.

As to your naturalization citation, I agree with Kirsten that you don¹t need
everything you have there. This is a complicated example, but I might do
something like this:

   1. ³Selected U.S. Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1790-1974
(World Archives Project),² Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed
14 Jan 2010), digital image, entry for Ida Lehman, Petition for
Naturalization (1938), naturalization file no. 372520, Southern District of
New York; citing Petitions for Naturalization from the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of New York, 1897-1944, Records of the District
Courts of the United States, RG 21, NARA microfilm publication M1972, roll
1304.

As Elizabeth Mills often says, citation is not a science, but an art. We all
grapple with it.

Best of luck to you,

Janis Walker Gilmore
