It is a good alternate, but I  might change to English Colonial America 
(instead of British), and the other flavors instead. Having the 
colonizers country in the name shows which place to search for other records.

"Colonial America" might work for this - propagates comprehensibly into reports 
and allows the other nationalities to be handled by the colony designation.

Many counties were created in America before the revolution. I created a place 
BNA (British North America), ...  ... because of Spanish, Swedish, Dutch and 
French America needed to be separate from England, and if I used England it 
confused which side of the pond was in question.
