Martin, I co-operate with other people, especially on my one-name site with many individuals, with the same names, born around the same time and in the same area, the only thing I can use to ensure the indentification of a specific person is the RIN. They are also the best way of identifying people who may be duplicates and family relatives where a generation may be missing.
Secondly the file names for Pedigree webpages are the RIN with the .html extension, hance it is easier to think in RINs rather than names. I can only envision a use where reusing an abandoned RIN could only be confusing. But I really don't see how I would make use of them at all. -- Marty On Fri, May 21, 2010 at 4:42 AM, Ron Ferguson <[email protected]> wrote: Marty, I don't think you are missing out on anything, I haven't a clue why the question is being asked nor why it might be useful to know the answer. And I *do* use the RINs, all the time, for identification. Furthermore I do not fill unused RINs so I have a few hundred gaps. Do I miss them? No! The RIN is a unique identifier for each individual in the database, but does it matter what number it is? Not in the slightest. Robert (and others): If you have "Reuse abandoned RINs" turned on, then tblXI contains a list of the missing RINs. You can run the following query in Access, LTools, OOBase, etc.: SELECT tblXI.DeletedID FROM tblXI ORDER BY tblXI.DeletedID If you do not have "Reuse abandoned RINs" turned on, you can turn it on temporarily. This will cause tblXI to be rebuilt. Then you can run the above SELECT query. When you are done you can turn off "Reuse abandoned RINs". -- Dennis Kowallek (LTools) http://zippersoftware.com/ltools http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ltools Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
